Sharp Corporation will continue to the lead the television manufacturing industry in 2013 with an all-LED line-up of high-end, big screen Quattron models, according to Sharp USA’s president John Herrington, who spoke at Sharp's press conference at CES today.
Furthermore, Sharp will continue to integrate its Igzo screen technology, currently used in smartphone hardware, into larger screen sizes.
Sharp first unveiled Quattron technology at CES in 2010. At the time, the introduction of a yellow subpixel to the traditional red/green/blue colour scheme was hailed as a great technological achievement.
When it was released to retail later that year, the high price point meant that it was only available to the 1 per centers in the very high end. 2013 will see that change, with the proprietary and exclusive Quattron technology now filtering down into models in Sharp’s mid-range, which itself is equivalent to the premium end of rival TV suppliers.

There will be 21 new models in Sharp’s TV range at 60 inches and above, including its much lauded 90-inch model. All of Sharp’s new Aquos TVs will be LED, and there will 10 Quattron models in the range.
Herrington also spoke of Sharp’s expanded Smart TV offering, called ‘Smart Central’.
“In the 2013 Aquos lineup, SmartCentral will include an expanded selection of apps, Flash and HTML5 supported Web browsing and Android and iOS remote control operation.
“It will also feature Sharp Beam, a free app that enables users to send content from an iOS and Android smartphone or tablet to the big screen with a flick.”
The new Igzo screen technology that Sharp is investing in was developed for smartphone usage and is now being shown in a 32-inch prototype panel.
Igzo is similar to Ultra HD (or 4K) in that it has four times the resolution of Full HD TVs. Sharp describes Igzo as having “ultra low power consumption”, which in smartphones has resulted in a doubling of battery life. Sharp further espouses Igzo’s “high performance touch response.
Sharp prepared the following video to explain Igzo:
In addition to its new TV line-up, Sharp also unveiled new Blu-ray players, soundbars and sound systems to its audio visual ranges.
