SYDNEY, NSW: Smeg today is claiming an Australian first, releasing a freestanding cooker with both pyrolytic cleaning and an induction cooktop. Smeg said this was the oven with both technologies to be released in Australia.

Called ‘Opera’, the new Smeg A1PYID-6 is a 90-centimetre unit with a 70-litre oven cavity and 10 cooking functions. These include fan-forced, baking, fan grill and rotisserie. The cooktop features five induction hobs with each zone having a dedicated boost setting for fast heat-up. The oven itself is stainless steel.

“Global forerunner in kitchen appliance design and technology, Smeg is the first to market with the very latest technology in pyrolysis and induction in one appliance,” said a spokesperson. “The company believes the trend has been prompted by increased awareness amongst Australian consumers of the time-saving and energy conservation benefits of induction plus the maintenance-free properties of pyrolysis.”

Additional features include a warming tray, Thermoseal technology to control the cavity and safety features such as a child lock and a residual heat light.

The Smeg Opera A1PYID-6 is RRP $10,990.
