The new IKEA app now allows customers to search, shop and buy products on their mobile or tablet device with various delivery options including Click & Collect.

The new app has been designed to inspire customers with lifestyle imagery within the feeds for each area of the home with the ability to create and share shopping lists. Customers can also check stock availability in advance or while on the floor and the location finder helps shoppers find the aisles they need. There are also customer reviews when searching for items on the app.

The IKEA app is the first significant Australian iteration of the IKEA customer data promise, which was first launched by parent company, Ingka Group in January. It provides customers with an understanding, control, and ability to make decisions about their data.

When customers first log on to the app, there is a Take Control of Your Data tab with information links including how to choose what to share, the benefits of sharing data for the customer, how IKEA stores the data and how customers can take charge by choosing not to share their browsing history and choosing how they communicate with the retailer by switching options for email, SMS, and phone on or off.

IKEA Australia digital manager, Giovanni Rutigliano said the Data Promise ensures the retailer is as transparent as possible when it comes to using customer data.

“We want to build trust with our consumers, putting data ethics at the core of everything we do within a digital sense, so that customers have the understanding that have their best interests at heart in the services and interactions we have together.

“Introducing the new IKEA App in Australia brings to life a new channel within our multichannel retail offering. The app provides a faster and smoother experience and importantly, lays the foundations for upgrades and enhanced features to be introduced in the coming months.”

Anticipated features in the future include scan and go where customers will be able to skip the lines and purchase items from the IKEA shop floor, as well as snap and search, where they can take a picture of a product and find a similar item at IKEA.

“We’re hoping the app provides an enhanced shopping experience for our customers, whether at home, on the move or in-store. Combined with the introduction of IKEA Data Promise, we want customers to develop a relationship with IKEA based on trust. The IKEA App is taking its first step on a digital journey of continual improvements and technology upgrades as we learn more about our customer’s needs,” Rutigliano added.
