Motorola has unveiled the world’s first clamshell-style flexible display smartphone in Australia with the reimagined Motorola razr that was first introduced back in 2004 and sold 1.2 million units in Australia alone in the first two years.

Available from 24 February 2020 via Motorola online, selected Telstra stores and JB Hi-Fi, the new Motorola razr will RRP for $2,699.

It sports an industry-first patent-protected zero-gap hinge that allows both sides of the customised polymer flexible display to remain flush when closed. With re-engineered antennas, it is almost half the size of other smartphones currently on the market and is water resistant and splash-proof protected.

Motorola developed over 20 different prototypes during initial consumer research and the clamshell design was a winner due to its portability without compromising the screen size or folding mechanism.

When unfolded, the razr has a 6.2-inch Flex View display with 21:9 aspect ratio and when flipped shut, its external 2.7-inch interactive Quick View display allows users to make calls, reply to messages, control music, take selfies and more without opening the device.

Motorola general manager – sales APAC for mature markets, Danny Adamopoulos said the new razr brings a familiar yet unique mobile consumer experience. “The old razr was an icon that defined a generation and became an integral part of pop culture. The new razr takes those elements and flips them on its head to carve a revolutionary and unique smartphone experience.”
