Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas have seen a sales boom in the appliance sector.

Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics has shown household goods retailing rose by 1.6 per cent in December 2024 despite Australian retail turnover falling by 0.1 per cent and the December increase follows a 0.6 per cent increase in November.

By industry subgroup, electrical and electronic goods rose by 2.9 per cent ($64.5 million) in the month of December.

In 2024, Black Friday was held on Friday 29 November and Cyber Monday was held on Monday 2 December.

ABS head of business statistics, Robert Ewing, said: “Cyber Monday drove more spending on household goods as consumers took advantage of discounts on big ticket items.”

Smeg managing director, Wayne Campbell, told Appliance Retailer that the November and December sales period was strong for the company.

“Smeg experienced a positive result during the Black Friday to Christmas event period in all categories,” he said.

“Over the years we have seen the Black Friday event sales as a major purchasing period for the consumer. With the brand’s premium positioning within the Australian market Smeg continued to introduce new innovative products against a concerning trend where the market continues to be mainly driven by price erosion,” he said.

Anker Innovations head of marketing Harold Xu, told Appliance Retailer, the company experienced a record year following Black Friday and Christmas sales.

“Although there was a small decline in retail in December of 2024, we have seen positive growth and strong market conditions, particularly over the Christmas and Holiday periods. eufy’s core smart-home products in both security and robotic vacuums were extremely popular during this time, making both Black Friday and Christmas of 2024 a record year for us.

“We also expanded our product range and will continue to do so into 2025. Clearly, consumers are still willing to invest in innovative electrical and electronic goods regardless of economic conditions.”

Bi-Rite Home Appliances confirmed a strong final quarter of sales including Black Friday and Christmas.

“We experienced strong market conditions, particularly within the technology and IT sectors with televisions standing out as a key performer,” Bi-Rite Home Appliances COO Hamza Hussein told Appliance Retailer.

Schweigen also confirmed double-digit growth from its rangehoods over the final three months of 2024 and the first month of 2025.

According to Schweigen director Anthony Fletcher, this growth in both volume and value has been primarily driven by undermount rangehoods which represent a large majority of sales within the business.

“This represents a higher level of confidence in the marketplace as well as Schweigen’s marketing and brand exposure which has been a key area of investment for our business,” Fletcher said.
