Following its global launch at IFA 2024, Human Mobile Devices (HMD) is bringing its Fusion smartphone to Australia, accompanied by a series of interchangeable ‘outfits’ for consumers to tailor their device to their personal style.
With a slim yet strong stainless steel reinforced plastic casing, HMD Fusion taps into the raw and grunge aesthetic loved by Gen Z. The smartphone is equipped with a top-of-the-range camera system including a 50MP selfie camera with Selfie Gestures and Selfie Slow-Mo and a 108MP dual rear camera designed for low light and high speeds.
As with other smartphones in the company’s portfolio, the HMD Fusion is designed with FIY (fix it yourself) front of mind. Gen 2 repairability makes it easy to repair a smashed screen, depleted battery or damaged charging port using an iFixit kit which starts from $39.99.
Users can change the HHMD Fusion’s ‘outfits’ via six specialised pins which instantly alter the hardware and software of the phone, unlocking new capabilities, unique interfaces and enhanced performance.

As the digital detox movement continues to gain pace, with a bespoke app and contact blocking, HMD’s Digital Detox mode allows users to tailor their digital detox to their needs.
HMD Fusion comes with a three-year warranty, three years of security updates and a minimum of two years of OS upgrades.
HMD general manager for Australia and Oceania, Brenden Folitarik said, “The HMD Fusion epitomises our goal to put the ‘human’ in Human Mobile Devices. By being able to mix and match outfits that suit users’ personality, all surrounding an affordable new smartphone, we’re delivering absolute self-expression.”
HMD global chief marketing officer, Lars Silberbauer added,“In this day and age, a smartphone is more than just a device for connectivity. It’s a fashion statement, a means to express ourselves, and a tool for navigating the modern world.
“HMD Fusion is the next generation of smartphone – for the first time, we’re inviting people to embrace their creativity and build a device that’s tailored to them with our industry-first smart outfits. Fusion represents everything we stand for at HMD: creativity, innovation and collaboration.”
HMD Fusion is now available at Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi, Amazon, Officeworks (online), Big W (online) and via the HMD Australia website for RRP $499.
A suite of interchangeable outfits will be available in store from early December including the Flashy Outfit equipped with a built-in ring light for the front and back camera and the Rugged Outfit built for added protection with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
