UnderCurrent has to feel for the poor contestants on MasterChef. Constantly subjected to Pressure Tests, MysteryBox challenges, eliminations and endless fashion parades of cravats (care of food critic and show host Matt Preston), it’s a hard life.

Things aren’t much easier for the show’s judges, who must wax lyrical about all the dishes served up before them (including mediocre macarons and partially-cooked poultry), regardless of whether they’re feeling witty, wordy or wise.

So Sunbeam, being the helpful small appliance brand and show sponsor that it is, was more than happy to step into the breach last night.

According to Sunbeam, “MasterChef finalists Lynton and Emma avoided elimination last night thanks to the Sunbeam Duos Sous Vide”. We can presume there was a good deal of cooking talent in the mix too, but UnderCurrent is never one to downplay the importance of a good appliance.

Opining on Emma’s sous vide Dory dish, Matt Preston said “If all fish could taste like that, I’d be a happy man”. Gary Mehigan was equally effusive on the topic of Lynton’s lamb, saying “every element is beautiful and delicate”.

Clearly this appliance inspires great meals and great prose.
