SYDNEY, NSW: Nikon has today announced a series of new cameras to join its Coolpix digital imaging range, with 7 different models targeted at different users and photography needs.

The range additions include the projector-equipped Coolpix S1200pj, the compact S100 and the top-of-the-range P7100. Also included in the range is Nikon’s first ever ‘Tough’ model, the AW100.

“We’re very excited to announce the AW100,” said Nikon senior marketing manager, Nick Segger. “Over the years we’ve been asked many times when we plan on releasing a ‘tough’ model and the answer was this: when we could ensure the technology matched our rigorous specifications and we could deliver the image quality and functionality people expect from Nikon.

The 16-megapixel camera features 5x optical zoom and a 3-inch display, and is waterproof to 10 metres, shockproof to 1.5 metres and freezeproof to -10° Celsius.

In addition to these tough credentials, the camera can record Full-HD movies and features a built-in GPS with an electronic compass, map display and pre-programmed points of interest.

“We believe the AW100 will deliver the best photos, incredible videos and will be the perfect partner for those who lead an active or outdoor lifestyle,” said Segger.

“Despite its striking appearance and selection of vibrant colours, don’t be fooled – it’s more than just a pretty face. The feature packed AW100 is the result of years of technological development and research, proving it is possible to be tough on the inside and user friendly on the outside.”

Pricing and availability for the AW100 (and indeed all the new models in the range) is yet to be announced.
