SYDNEY, NSW: The ACCC has today issued a recall of Homemaker branded toaster models sold at Kmart in Australia from 2008 to 2011.

The Homemaker 2 Slice Stainless Steel Toaster (Model DHT-100) and 4 Slice Stainless Steel Toaster (DHT-400) were sold at Kmart nationally between 1 October 2008 and 24 May 2011, and are distinguished by their stainless steel finish and a large red ‘cancel’ button.

The toasters are being recalled because the products pose “a potential electrocution hazard,” according to the ACCC recall report. “Contact with the heating element may result in a severe electric shock of 240V.”

The ACCC reports that “some of the toasters have a faulty switch, causing the heating element to remain live when the lever is up and the toaster appears to be turned off.”

Consumers are advised to cease using the product immediately, and return it to Kmart for a full refund.
