This Monday (10 June 2013) is a public holiday in all states and territories, except Western Australia, in honour of the Queen’s Birthday. Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday is actually 21 April — same as Tony Danza’s — but it is celebrated on the second Monday in June because that is when the weather is nice in the Northern Hemisphere.
Western Australia is celebrating the Queen's Birthday this year on Monday 30 September 2013.
There are no onerous restrictions on trade for this public holiday.
Because of this public holiday, the Current.com.au newsletter will not be sent on Monday, and will return on Tuesday.
The annual Queen’s Birthday AFL match between Melbourne and Collingwood will be played at the MCG from 3:20pm (AEST). That’s 2:50pm in South Australia and Northern Territory and 1:20pm in Western Australia. Retailers looking to showcase live sport on their big screen TVs in-store should note the game is being broadcast live in SD on Channel 7 and affiliates, and in HD on Fox Footy (Channel 504).
The Queen’s Birthday NRL match is between Canberra and Brisbane. This game kicks off at 7pm and is live on Fox Sports 1 (Channel 501).
