If electrical retail were a popularity contest, JB Hi-Fi would be the Prom King. The publicly listed retailer has been named the most liked brand among electronics retailers and brands on Facebook, according to a report published today by The Online Circle.

Making this victory sweeter, JB Hi-Fi beat out longtime nemesis Kogan to the top spot, having amassed around 36,000 more fans at the time of the survey in May and June 2013. EB Games and Dick Smith were the only other two retailers to make the Top 20, which also included supplier brands.

The most liked brand in Australia is Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console, which has just short of 400,000 fans on Facebook. Sony Australia, HTC, Logitech and Nokia are also popular.

Samsung is the most talked hardware brand in Australia, though video game company EA Games and retailer EB Games both generate more chatter overall.

The Online Circle’s micro-analysis showed that Nokia’s update on the new Lumia range was the most liked post, beating the Xbox One announcement and a Samsung imaging post.

Logitech had the two most commented posts — “Try it” and “Ready? Go!!” — both sound very banal when taken out of Facebook.

The Good Guys is the most popular dedicated appliance retailer in the country; fourth overall in The Online Circle’s Department and Online Store rankings. The most popular is CatchOfTheDay, which occasionally does run-outs of appliance stock, online stationery store Smiggle and Target.

David Jones, Big W and Harvey Norman are also well-liked with 200,000 plus fans, while Domayne is a surprise runaway winner of most talked about, almost double its nearest rival, despite having only 30,000 fans.
