eufy has launched the S3 Max Video Smart Lock in Australia, introducing palm-vein recognition technology to the local market for the first time.
The device is designed to offer a secure and hands-free way to access homes, with a focus on accessibility for users of all ages.
The S3 Max can register and recognise up to 50 unique palm vein patterns. When a registered user waves their hand over the infrared sensor, the system uses near-infrared rays to scan the palm and grant access within 0.1 seconds if a match is found. According to eufy, this touch-free method delivers an accuracy rate of 99.99999 percent.
The S3 Max is available for $899.95 through the eufy website and Harvey Norman. It will roll out to JB Hi-Fi in mid-July and The Good Guys shortly after.
Joey Yan, Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand at Anker Innovations, said the technology aims to improve safety and reduce hassle for users.
“This palm-vein technology is the first of its kind in Australia and will provide users with safety and security while reducing any hassle,” he said.
The smart lock combines several features into a single unit, including a built-in doorbell, video camera, and display screen. Its 2K camera offers a 150-degree vertical and 180-degree diagonal field of view, helping to monitor package deliveries and doorstep activity.
The device’s display screen activates within one second of detecting motion, allowing users inside the home—especially seniors or children—to check who is at the door without opening the eufy app.
The lock operates on a dual power system: a rechargeable 15,000mAh lithium battery and four AAA batteries. eufy claims this setup can support full functionality for up to six months and basic locking functions for up to a year. A built-in sensor continuously checks if the door is securely locked, reducing the likelihood of false alarms by 95 percent.
