Electrolux Group has officially opened a state-of-the-art distribution and Experience Centre at the Port of Brisbane’s Port West industrial estate, becoming the first tenant to launch within Stage 2 of the precinct.
Developed in partnership with Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL), the 21,255sqm facility signifies a milestone in the Port’s sustainability journey and sets a new benchmark for environmentally responsible industrial development.
It was delivered in collaboration with JLL, McNab, Johnstaff, Sparc Architects, and Northrop Consulting Engineers.
Located on a 4.22-hectare site in Lytton, the facility includes a premium warehouse, a two-storey office, a dock office, a repairs workshop, a large truck apron, car parking, and a purpose-built Experience Centre.
It is targeting a 6-Star Green Star rating (v1.3) from the Green Building Council of Australia, making it the most sustainable building developed at the Port to date.
The facility features rooftop solar panels, low-carbon concrete, and an architecturally striking timber structure built from Glulam and Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT). Through PBPL’s embedded energy network, Electrolux will also access 100 per cent renewable electricity for its operations.
Additional sustainability features include rainwater harvesting for bathrooms and appliance testing, recycling of water used for fire safety systems, and an advanced Building Management System. Every design element was optimised to reduce embodied carbon wherever possible.
“Today not only celebrates the arrival of the Electrolux Group to Port West Stage 2, but also marks the beginning of a new benchmark in sustainability at the Port of Brisbane,” said PBPL CEO Neil Stephens.
“Taking direction from Electrolux Group’s sustainability ambitions, the project pushed the boundaries of what sustainable development looks like in an industrial setting.”
The facility also enhances Electrolux Group’s operational footprint in Queensland, supporting the distribution of its flagship brands—Electrolux, Westinghouse, and AEG—to households across Australia.
“The opening of this facility signifies another significant investment in the future of the Electrolux Group in Australia,” said Kurt Hegvold, Managing Director, Electrolux Group Australia & New Zealand.
“We’re ensuring our Queensland operations continue to provide amazing experiences for our consumers and customers and, importantly, an outstanding workplace for our employees.”
The site’s Experience Centre includes demonstration kitchens for live cooking sessions by renowned chefs and can host up to 150 guests. Employee wellbeing was central to the site’s design, with outdoor spaces and terraces that capitalise on the riverside location.
JLL’s Brian O’Connell, who led the project’s delivery, said Electrolux’s vision for a 6-Star rating influenced every aspect of the build.
“From our earliest discussions, Electrolux Group was very clear that they wanted to achieve a maximum Green Star rating,” said O’ Connell, highlighting the use of sustainable materials like CLT in the office and Experience Centre.
