Last year it was the plane, this year it is a fantasy island of a different kind. In the first of what will no doubt be many extravagant holiday-season promotions in 2011, Canon yesterday announced its Christmas campaign – a trip for 57 lucky Australian consumers to "Canon Island".

Experienced cartographers will be quick to note that such a product-placement-wonderland does not exist. However, Canon has reassured its followers that the as-yet-undisclosed location (an Australian Island, according to the company) will offer a once-in-a-lifetime getaway.

The prize will see 57 lucky Australians (and their plus-ones) jetting off for three days for a VIP holiday full of all-expenses paid activity and Robert Louis Stevenson-esque fun.

Customers in Australia and New Zealand who purchase more than $90 of Canon product in one transaction from authorised Canon retailers (including online and in-store) will be eligible to enter the draw. Entries can be made at the Canon Australia website, the Canon New Zealand website or by scanning the QR code that comes on entry forms.

The competition begins this week, with entries closing on Monday 16 January 2012 and the holiday set to take place in March 2012.

According to Darren Ryan, General Manager Consumer Marketing of Canon Australia, the experience will be a great reward for Canon customers.

“Here at Canon, we want to inspire consumers to capture life’s unforgettable moments but also reward them for choosing Canon,” said Ryan. “So what better way to do this than give away a truly original Canon experience that money simply can’t buy?”

“Last year, it was a jet plane. This year, we’re taking over an island. We can’t disclose all the details just yet, but shoppers can rest assure that the Canon Island competition will be well and truly worth the wait.”

The competition will also offer consumers three daily chances to win up to $500. Taking into account these prizes, as well as the tickets to the militarily-monikered Canon Island, the total prize pool is valued over $800,000 in Australia.

As with all these competitions, there are plenty of terms and conditions to check out – they’re available at Canon’s website.
