The Sharp Corporation has announced the appointment of Takashi Okuda as its new president, effective 1 April 2012. Okuda will replace Mikio Katayama, who will be moving to a joint director and chairman role.

Okudo has worked for Sharp for 33 years, having joined the company in 1978 after graduating from the Nagoya Institute of Technology with a Master’s Degree.

His vast experience at Sharp includes stints as the GM of the Visual Equipment Division; group general manager of the AV Systems Group; GM of the Global Market Development Group; and group general manager of the Global Business Group.

Also announced this morning was the retirement of representative director, chairman Katsuhiko Machida, who will assume a corporate advisor role in June 2012.
