Canon Australia has today announced two new additions to its PowerShot fixed lens compact camera range: the S100 and the SX40HS.
Both these new cameras feature the DiG!C 5 Image Processor, which is explained here by digital cameras assistant brand manager James Lai.
“Since the birth of the first generation DiG!C image processor, Canon has continuously evolved its technology to capitalise on our leading optics and deliver the very best image quality,” he said. “DiG!C 5 is revolutionary, contributing a range of enhancements including better noise reduction, automation capabilities, better white balance and faster continuous shooting.
“With the technological improvements in white balance and noise reduction capabilities, users can capture beautiful, natural-looking colours, even in difficult lighting situations.”

Features of the S100 include a 24mm wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom, Intelligent Image Stabiliser, in-built GPS, 32 scenes in its intelligent auto focus range, Full HD movie recording and a 3-inch LCD screen. This is a 12.1-megapixel camera.
The PowerShot SX40HS is also a 12.1-megapixel camera, with features including 35x optical zoom, 24mm wide angle lens, Intelligent Image Stabiliser, Full HD video recording, 2.7-inch LCD monitor and a 32-scene intelligent auto function.
No RRPs as yet for these two cameras, which are expected to be released in October 2011.
