Samsung has unveiled a range of new refrigerators with AI Hybrid Cooling technology at CES 2025, designed to enhance energy efficiency.

AI Hybrid Cooling technology combines a highly efficient compressor with a Peltier module; a semiconductor device that achieves cooling by harnessing the temperature change from the flow of electric current.

For example, when significant cooling demand is detected or anticipated once items are added after grocery shopping or when storing hot food – the refrigerator activates the Peltier module alongside the compressor. During regular use, it relies solely on the compressor to ensure optimal efficiency.

The AI algorithm is designed to detect the status of the refrigerator and can predict temperature changes inside the fridge to help adjust the cooling mode. The AI Inverter compressor also contributes to efficient energy use, thanks to an enhanced design.

AI Hybrid Cooling technology can also enhance food freshness with Hybrid Precise Cooling, designed to reduce internal temperature fluctuations in the fridge when activated — even during automatic defrost cycles. Tests show that when the Hybrid Precise Cooling is turned on, fresh foods such as pork and salmon can last by up to 1.4 times and 1.2 times respectively, compared to when it is turned off.

By replacing traditional heating elements with a Peltier module, it can better utilise interior space, with these refrigerators boasting a 900L capacity while maintaining the same external dimensions.

Australian availability for Samsung refrigerators with AI Hybrid Cooling has not been announced.
