Three more Samsung machines have either caught fire, smoked or imploded in January.
As news of another fire involving a Samsung recalled washing machine at a Sydney childcare centre hit the headlines on Thursday, an unconfirmed report now claims a major national retailer has pulled two non-recalled Samsung washing machine models from the sales floor. However, Samsung spokesman corporate VP Philip Newton told AR, the retailer action “was news to him.”
According to Tarnya Allen from a Facebook member group of concerned owners, two incidents in the past week claiming to involve Samsung washing machines not in recall may have precipitated the move by the retailer. In Queensland, Samsung model WA406DJHDWR, fell apart during the spin cycle and in the other instance, the front loader WW75H5290EW was said to have almost caught alight.
While the fire at the childcare centre involved recalled models, AR has not been able to confirm with the centre if this was the case and if so why the machines had not been removed from the centre for replacement or repair. According to Samsung, it was “100% sure that these were recalled models and this has been verified with the centre.”
However, NSW Fair Trading confirmed the Samsung washing machine model number SW75V9 is one of six top loader models which are part of a mandatory recall.
