Bissell cordless wet dry vacuum cleaners, model numbers 2588F and 2582H, have been recalled due to a defect in some circuit boards in the battery which may overheat and catch fire, posing risk of serious injury.

The affected vacuum cleaners were sold between 1 June 2019 and September 2022 through Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, Winnings, Bing Lee, Betta, Catch, Godfreys, JB Hi-Fi and Bissell direct.

In a statement shared with Appliance Retailer, Bissell Oceania managing director, Chris Egan said, “Since 1876, Bissell has been committed to designing cleaning products that are safe and reliable. Despite this focus, we experienced one known failure in Australia being less than 0.009% of units in market. Regardless of this very low incident rate, due to an abundance of caution, Bissell proactively initiated a voluntary recall of two models replacing returned consumer units with a new upgraded model.”

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the vacuum cleaners, remove the product from the charging base, unplug the base and register their details at https://bissell.com.au/pages/recall to receive a replacement.

Consumers will be sent a pre-paid Australia Post label by email to return the handle from their recalled model to Bissell for verification. A new product will be sent as a replacement.
