Following the departure of Lionel Lee from the Narta board, Bing Lee general manager Pete Harris has been elected to the Narta board.
Narta chairman Kay Spencer announced the appointment of Harris following the decision by Lionel Lee to step down from the board and his position as deputy chairman. The new deputy chairman of Narta will be Betta Stores CEO Graeme Cunningham.
“The board, under its charter, can invite someone to serve as a director – and we have invited Pete Harris from Bing Lee. We are absolutely delighted to have Pete on the board – he has been in the industry a long time and he knows how we operate. He will be a major asset to the retailers and also work well with our supplier partners – so we welcome him.
When asked about his appointment to the board, Harris said he was very proud to be selected.
“With Lionel stepping down, it is a privilege to be asked to join the Narta board. When I go into a Narta meeting, I will take my Bing Lee hat off and put by Narta hat on and I take that responsibility very seriously as well as making sure that we work closely with our valued suppliers. Narta works as a collective for both retailers and suppliers and we are there to ensure that we achieve value for both.”
Harris will now sit on the board and after 12 months can offer himself up for election by the shareholders.
Narta member, Rob Sinclair from e&s, welcomed the appointment of Harris to the board.
“Pete is already a great friend for many of us in the industry. It is fantastic to have youth injected into the business and someone who is such an influential member join the board,” Sinclair said.
