Electrolux Home Products is conducting a recall of BeefEater outdoor refrigerators (beverage chillers) due to risk of a fire.

Electrolux has identified that water can penetrate the sealed electrical control board located on the rear of the refrigerator, which may cause a fire, posing a risk of injury and damage to property.

The affected model numbers are BS28200 and BS28130 with serial numbers in the range of 72900000 to 95299999 and 00100000 to 04599999 only.

The BeefEater refrigerators were sold between 1 July 2017 and 30 November 2020 through Barbeques Galore, Betta Stores, Bi-Rite Electrical, Bing Lee, Domayne, Dorsett Retail, E&S, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi Group, Retravision, Retravision Commercial, Spartan Electrical, and Winning Group.

Consumers should immediately turn the refrigerator off, disconnect it from electricity supply, and contact Electrolux to arrange for a service technician to make a free of charge repair. For further information, consumers can contact Electrolux Home Products toll-free number 1800 001 218 between 8am and 7pm EST Monday to Friday or email productrecall@electrolux.com

“We will be working with our retail partners to contact consumers who have purchased an affected Beefeater Refrigerator BS28130 or BS28200 and to provide a remedy for this issue,” Electrolux Australia and New Zealand managing director, Kurt Hegvold said in a statement supplied to Appliance Retailer.

“Consumers with affected fridges are advised to immediately cease use of the fridges and not sell or hire them out to anyone else. While we appreciate the difficulty a recall presents, we are taking this action to ensure the safety of our consumers.”
