Overtakes Samsung in smartphone stakes.
Apple has climbed back as the top smartphone, setting an all-time revenue record for iPhone sales. Apple posted a record US$78.4 billion in sales for the quarter. However, iPad sales declined around 19% from the previous year, the third year of falling sales for the device.
According to Strategy Analytics, strong iPhone sales and Samsung’s Galaxy Note7 recall helped push Apple back into the top spot. Apple sold over 78 million iPhones in Q4 2016 while Samsung sales reached 77.5 million. Samsung is expected to release its Galaxy S8 model smartphone soon.
The global smartphone market grew 3% in 2016 with Huawei, OPPO and Vivo the other three leading brands.
