After its initial release 35 years ago, Smeg will introduce the next evolution of its Classic Collection with updated technology, user control interfaces and a new matte black finish.

New intuitive touch screens feature over 50 automatic programs for proteins, vegetables, baking and desserts with scrolling navigation for simple operation. The innovative multi-step cooking function has three stages to perfect time-consuming dishes such as pork belly. The freestanding cookers, built-in and compact ovens can store up to 64 recipes by category – roast, grill, bake and sous vide.

Other key highlights in the Collection include the new pizza function on the 90cm cooker for the ultimate crispy crust every time and the Classic coffee machine that can make 50 cups of coffee per bean container and has over 50 drink combinations, in addition to a new thermal milk jug that will keep milk chilled for one hour out of the fridge.

Smeg Australia managing director, Jimmy Kalotheos shared his insights on the new Classic Collection in a recent video interview with Appliance Retailer.

“It’s a very exciting part of the evolution of Classic for us. If you speak to most consumers or the trade and ask them what we are renowned for, the Smeg Classic aesthetic, inspired by internationally renowned architect, Guido Canali, would definitely be up there on the list,” he said.

“Aesthetically, the products remain classic, beautiful and timeless in design and we think it continues to appeal to a broad customer base. There are some additions this time around. There is some amazing technology in the background, which will make it much easier for consumers to create beautiful results in their own home and we know they are doing more cooking now than ever before.

“Technology is great but it can be scary for some people so we focused on incredible technology but a very simple experience in terms of the way that they engage with the product so that will be a big part of the messaging this time around.

“We are also adding to the range with a number of different products, which has always been an important part of the way we go to market. In particular a new matte black oven.

“The Classic Collection is only one part of a number of new products that we will be releasing soon, including a new 120cm Portofino cooker, ta FAB38 fridge and further Dolce & Gabbana collaborations, so we have a lot to talk about between now and the end of the year.”

Smeg’s Classic collection will be available nationally from selected retailers and appliance specialists from July 2020.
