With industry-leading noise cancellation.

Sony’s launch emphasis for its new headphones will focus on giving key stakeholders the opportunity to experience the comfort the new form factor offers, Sony head of marketing communications, Sam Williams told Appliance Retailer. This strategy was intended to help remove any potential barrier to buyers that may not have tested truly wireless in-ear headphones before, he said.

“Our key target audience for Sony’s industry-leading noise cancelling earbuds include frequent flyers and business commuters, so with this in mind the trial took place on a bespoke Sony bus, providing an appropriate way to road test the WF-1000XM3 headphones. Sony’s other priority has been to ensure we get the product into market, and this will be followed shortly by a marketing campaign to create demand and drive customers into stores.”

The WF-1000X M3 headphones take silence to the next level with the HD noise cancelling processor QN1e chip and dual noise sensor technology that work together to catch and cancel noise.

The buds, which are designed for free movement without tangled wires, feature a new Bluetooth chip for left to right simultaneous Bluethooth transmission so both receive audio content at the same time, rather than the conventional left-to-right relay transmission.

An ‘ergonomic tri-hold’ structure holds earbuds firmly in place, with three supporting points for the ear. A high-friction rubber surface is included to ensure a stable fitting and there are four sizes of hybrid earbuds and three sizes of triple comfort earbuds in the box.

Listening time is up to 24 hours with noise cancelling on and the sleek carry case also doubles as a charger, for battery boost on the go. A 10-minute quick charge function gives up to 90 minutes of battery life.

The quick attention mode allows for communicating without removing earbuds while touch sensors easily play, pause, skip songs or activate voice assistant with simple taps. A new wearing detection feature automatically pauses music when one earbud is removed, resuming playing when the earbud is back in the ear.

Optimised for the Google Assistant, headphones can be controlled by voice and are compatible with the Sony headphones connect app.

The earbuds are available in black and platinum silver for $399.95 RRP.
