With groundbreaking photo capabilities.

Huawei unveiled its latest smartphones, the P30 and P30 Pro Series at a global launch event in Paris. The devices are said to deliver cinematic capabilities with studio-grade videography. The company claims the flagship P30 Pro “rewrites the rules of photography” with a new generation Leica Quad camera incorporating a 5X optical zoom lens together with an ultra-wide angle lens and 6.47-inch OLED screen.

The devices feature a 40MP sensor that captures light more effectively. This SuperSpectrum sensor utilises a RYVB filter replacing traditional green with yellow pixels to deliver an ISO 409,600 on the P30 Pro and 204,800 on the P30 for a better performance in low light conditions. Both are powered by Huawei’s Kirin 980 chipset – the P30 Pro  has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and the P30 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and are splash, dust and water resistant.  There is an in-screen fingerprint scanner and a 32MP front-facing selfie camera.

A new periscope style lens on the P30 Pro supports 5x optical zoom, a 10x hybrid zoom and a 50x digital zoom that increases the detail of images.

“With the P30 Series any phone user can transform the average selfie, lighten the evening sky or capture the full view with simplicity,” Huawei Australia managing director, Larking Huang said.

The launch will be supported by the company’s biggest campaign to date that takes in television, print, digital media and retail advertising.  Pre-orders will receive a bonus Sonos One smart speaker valued at $299 via redemption, available from March 27 to April 15. Optus will be the exclusive partner providing a dual 4G SIM card compatible on both models with a single SIM available through other channels.

The smartphones come in two finishes, the pearlescent Breathing Crystal and Aurora. The P30 retails at $1,099 and the P30 Pro is $1,599, and these will be released in Australia on April 16.

Participating retailers include Vodafone, Telstra, Optus, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Mobileciti and Kogan.
