One year on from launch.

More Australians have bought Nintendo products from Amazon in 2018 than any other brand, the online giant has revealed in its 2018 Consumer Trends report, published to mark one year since entering the local market.

Other key take outs from the report include Garmin and FitBit products making up almost half of the top 10 best-sellers in electronics, while sports headphones like Jabra Elite Sport and Bose Soundsport are also among the biggest sellers.

An obsession with health and wellness has seen an increased interest in drinks with additional ingredients like vitamins, minerals or raw fruit and vegetables. As a result, blenders have been on high on the list, including the Braun TributeCollection bench blender.

Casio’s old-school black resin digital watch is also selling well as retro games, clothes, toys and characters take centre stage.

Australia’s love of pets is reflected through the success of Amazon Pet Supplies. Consumers spend more than $12.2 billion on pet products and services annually and an estimated $490 million on pet insurance.

Amazon Australia country manager, Rocco Braeuniger said, “It has been a brilliant journey and to the millions of customers who have welcomed us, thank you. It has been a big year and we are only getting started. It is always day one at Amazon and we are excited to continue to grow our store and invent on behalf of the Australian shoppers and to see what the New Year brings.”

Product selection on Amazon Australia has grown fivefold to nearly 100 million products across 29 categories since launch, while the number of Australian sellers has almost reached 10,000.

Key highlights over the past year include the arrival of Alexa and the launch of Fulfilment by Amazon in February, the launch of the Global Store in May, the launch of Prime in June and the first Australian Black Friday sale event.
