Billed The Portrait Conference, the new photography initiative created by Kayell Australia, has been designed for professional, amateur and student portrait photographers in Australia and New Zealand, and will become an annual event.

It will include two full days of portraiture instruction by eight of Australia’s most talented portrait artists and educators, including keynote speaker, Peter Adams, a world-renowned portrait photographer who has interviewed and captured portraits of 500 of the world’s great photographers.

Other presenters include Tim Bauer, Vicky Papas Vergara, Natalie Howe,
Robyn Campbell, Marcus Bell, Charmaine Heyer, Peter Rossi and Gary Grealy.

Kayell Australia managing director and event organiser, Robert Gatto said The Portrait Conference provides an opportunity for all level of enthusiasts to extend their portrait photography skills both in a competitive field as well as a conference environment where participants will have access to some of Australia’s most talented portrait photographers.

“Thanks to the support of Kayell Australia, Epson and Nikon, we are able to offer a
triple-billed event with one of Australia’s largest prize pools on offer for a photographic competition,” Gatto said.

The Portrait Competition will be judged by Kelly Tunney, Peter Eastway and Damien Bowerman, with entries closing on 31 July, 2018.

Entry Requirements Prizes
Open Category Open to professionals who earn a full or part-time income from photography. 1st prize – $10,000 cash
2nd prize – Nikon D850 Camera
3rd prize – Eizo CG2420 Monitor
Amateur Category For enthusiasts who earn under $1000 in income per year from photography. Income and prizes awarded for photography competitions not included. 1st prize – $10,000 cash
2nd prize – Nikon D850 Camera
3rd prize – Eizo CG2420 Monitor
Student Category Open to students in Years 10, 11 and 12 only. Students who earn an income from photography are not entitled to enter this category. 1st prize – $2,000 cash
2nd prize – $1,000 cash
3rd prize – $500 cash 

The top 30 entrants from all three categories in the online Portrait Competition will automatically qualify for The Print Competition which offers an extra prize pool of $20,000.

The Print Competition – which comprises only those top 30 entrants from The Portrait Competition – will be judged and announced on the final night of The Portrait Conference on 14 October, 2018 at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney.
