New rugged model.

Panasonic will soon release a new rugged compact camera, the Lumix FT7, which is waterproof to 31 metres and freezeproof to minus 10 degrees Celsius, dustproof, shockproof to two metres, and pressure resistant to 100kgf.

These rugged features are backed by a 20.4-megapixel sensor, high-quality viewfinder, Panasonic’s 4K capabilities, and a 28mm wide angle 4.6x zoom Lumix lens with folded optics.

For further protection, the FT7 body case has been thickened to withstand underwater pressure, folded optics prevent damage to the lens if dropped during operation, and the rear monitor is protected with tempered glass.

The camera also includes a built-in compass, altimeter and torch light via the LED. Wi-Fi streamlines sharing of images, geotagging and remote control via smartphone. The FT7 can be charged via USB cable direct to the camera, anywhere there is a USB power source.

The FT7 captures smooth 4K Video in 3840 x 2160 at 25p, and 4K Photo with 4K Pre-burst mode shoots 30 frames per second before and after the shutter is released. The Post Focus feature, once set, allows users to choose the focal point of an image after it’s been taken.

Panasonic Australia product marketing manager for imaging, Scott Mellish said: “Panasonic has a strong heritage in tough cameras. We are pleased to bring our trademark 4K Photo capabilities to this latest model – so photographers don’t miss that defining moment, and images will be crystal clear from the top of a mountain to under the waves.”

The Panasonic Lumix FT7 will be available in black and orange for an RRP of $599 from July 2018.
