Introducing augmented reality.

Samsung Electronics has unveiled the latest addition to its Galaxy smartphone series at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, by introducing the Galaxy S9 and S9+. The redesigned camera with new dual aperture lens is ideal for low light conditions and offers super slow-mo video capabilities and personalised AR Emoji, designed for users to connect with others and express themselves in a more unique and personal way.

The AR Emoji feature lets users create an emoji that looks, sounds and acts like them using a data-based machine learning algorithm, which analyses a 2D image of the user and maps out more than 100 facial features to create a 3D model that reflects and imitates expressions for true personalisation.

Samsung’s intelligence platform, Bixby, is also integrated into the camera, to provide helpful information about a user’s surroundings. With real-time object detection and recognition, Bixby instantly generates information directly on top of the image that the camera is pointing at. Users can translate foreign languages and currency in real time with Live Translation, learn about their surroundings, purchase products seen in the real world and track calories throughout the day.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ cameras are built with a super speed dual pixel sensor with dedicated processing power and memory to take shots with high photo quality.

Other key features include stereo speakers tuned by AKG, Dolby Atmos for an immersive audio experience, a refined edge-to-edge Infinity Display and the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are the first smartphones to support the SmartThings app. The app will connect to other Samsung and non-Samsung devices.

Samsung Galaxy S9 will be available in four colours

With IP68 water and dust resistance and wireless charging, the GalaxyS9 and S9+ now support expandable memory of up to 400GB with a micro SD card and are equipped with the latest premium application processors. In addition, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are protected by Knox 3.1, Samsung’s latest defense-grade security platform. The devices also support three different biometric authentication options – iris, fingerprint, and facial recognition.

Samsung Australia director of IT and mobile, Garry McGregor said, “The Galaxy S9 and S9+ represent our commitment to creating an incredible smartphone experience. We want to give our customers the ability to take photos and so they can express themselves in new ways, and we are doing this by redefining how people use our smartphones to share and consume content. While we want our customers to have the best Samsung mobile technology, we also want them to have fun and enjoy using a smartphone that helps them express themselves.

“At the core of the Galaxy S9 is a camera that will give Australians the ability to capture moments in ways we have never offered in our smartphones. With an incredible aperture range and lens technology that mimics the human eye, images captured with the Galaxy S9 will look stunning regardless of whether they’re taken during the day or at night.”

“With Super Slow-mo on the Galaxy S9, Australians will be able to slow down time in the videos they capture and even share moments using their favourite music and soundtracks.

Samsung Galaxy S9+ in Coral Blue and Midnight Black

“We want people to have fun with the Galaxy S9 camera through new features like Super Slow-mo and our AR Emojis, which will allow users to create funny, expressive emoji replicas of their face. Using AR Emoji, the Galaxy S9 can create a My Emoji replica of the user’s face, creating personalised and fun tweets, texts, Facebook posts, or messages.

“Australians will be able to share their emojis across most of the latest smartphones and third-party messaging apps, as we want people to have the freedom to share with just about anyone. A beautiful Infinity Display is part of how people recognise Samsung devices and the Galaxy S9 delivers a rich and immersive experience. The Galaxy S9’s Super AMOLED display creates an edge-to-edge experience without compromise or notches as the screen blends into the edges of the device itself.”

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are now available for pre-sale and will be available for sale from 16 March, 2018 in Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and a new hue, Lilac Purple.
