Third deal in two years.

The Glen Dimplex Group has acquired the Home Appliances business, effective 1 March, 2018. Currently owned by McPherson’s Limited, Home Appliances is the distributor of Euromaid, Baumatic, IAG, ARC, Lemair and Venini appliances. This strategic acquisition, adds these brands to the existing stable of Glen Dimplex brands in the MDA, SDA and seasonal categories for the Australian market.

Home Appliances is currently based in Artarmon in Sydney’s lower north shore, and Glen Dimplex Australia managing director, David Woodward (pictured below) told Appliance Retailer that the company will retain the current Sydney facilities. “Glen Dimplex has always been based in Melbourne so it is a great opportunity for us to now have a facility for the wider business in the key Sydney market,” he said.

“Our primary focus is on ensuring we maintain and grow the business that both Glen Dimplex and Home Appliances do today and that our customers are not affected by the change of ownership. Over time we will review our operations but both organisations have a very similar model and culture today,” he said.

Woodward highlighted the importance of retaining the key people and strengths that have contributed to Home Appliances successes to date.

“It was immediately obvious to us that there are many great people in this business and we are excited for them to join the overall organisation. Every business has its own unique DNA and particular strengths and we want to preserve these and ensure the combined business is built on the best practices in each entity.

“The cornerstone of this acquisition is the retention of the majority of people. Given the amount of key staff based in Sydney we are very pleased to be able to establish a Glen Dimplex facility in Sydney to complement our existing Melbourne facilities.

“The resulting combination of Home Appliances, Technika and Belling will create a significant entity with the required scale to truly service the Australian market. This is an exciting stage of our continued development in Australia and we are confident that the combined entity will allow us to offer the market a strong and competitive range with great in store service and after sales service. The strength that we now have will allow us to develop a divisional infrastructure to provide appropriate focus to our different categories and become specialists in our respective fields.”

“As we transition the Home Appliance business into Glen Dimplex Australia over the next couple of months we are keen to assure customers that it will be business as usual. We have a proud history of acquiring great brands and investing in them for further success. There has been a huge amount of planning and resource dedicated to this project to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible and that all customers will continue to enjoy the high service standards that you do today.”

McPherson’s Limited managing director, Laurence McAllister said, “This transaction is a great outcome for the Home Appliance business, Glen Dimplex and McPherson’s, fitting perfectly into Glen Dimplex’s core business and enabling McPherson’s to focus on its strategy to grow its business in health, wellness and beauty markets. We have every confidence the Home Appliances business and its employees will thrive under Glen Dimplex’s very professional management.”

Group CEO, Fergal Naughton commented, “We are delighted to announce our latest acquisition in Australia which is a market we are keen to continue to invest in and build our presence and capabilities. Our portfolio of brands now allows us to forge very meaningful partnerships with our Australian customers, across many categories, all year round.”

Home Appliances represents the third Australian acquisition for Glen Dimplex following its acquisition of Real Flame and Technika.
