Not approved by Australian electrical certification.

The 3DR Solo Smart Drone Quadcopter sold through Kogan HK Limited has been recalled. Components of the drone sold between January 1, 2016 and October 11, 2016 had not been tested or approved by Australian electrical certification.

The components specifically include the 3DR Solo Smart Battery, Controller Battery, Overseas Plug Controller Charger and DR Solo Drone Charger Cord set CH-07.

Only 29 customers have been affected. They are being contacted via both email and phone to advise them that they should cease using the non-compliant components and that fully compliant replacement products will be provided to them at no cost.

According to Simon Taylor the managing director of Arisit – the local distributor of 3DR – this recall serves as a warning to companies who choose to deal in grey or parallel imported product that is brought into Australia after being sold in other countries.

“We believe that the Kogan recall has resulted from a ‘grey import’ where the power packs do not comply with Australian regulations,” Taylor told Appliance Retailer.

“I can confirm that this product has not been supplied by Arisit and as a result we are not involved in the recall as our products comply with all Australian electrical standards and certification. We would like to take this opportunity to remind retailers that this highlights one of the main issues with grey imports.”
