Sony has expanded its expertise in 4K technology, developing the world’s first 4K smartphone, Xperia Z5 Premium, shown to select media at an exclusive event in Sydney’s Circular Quay on Thursday evening. With Sony’s Alpha™ camera technology, users can capture split-second moments at a record speed of just 0.03 seconds (faster than a blink of an eye). The new integrated fingerprint sensor power button also makes the device more personal, protected and easily unlockable.

The fingerprint sensor will also support authentication via fingerprint for online payment services, with partnership details to come.

Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 enables 5.5 hours usage with just 10 minutes of charging with a certified charger, such as the Quick Charger UCH10.

All devices in the series, including the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact, feature the brand new 23 mega-pixel Exmor RS™ for mobile sensor, supporting the fastest auto-focus on a smartphone. With a five times clear image zoom and improvements in low-light photography, users can capture clearer photos at night with less noise and blur. The devices also boast the highest rating of IP65 and IP68 for water and dust resistance.

Sony Mobile Communications head of business development for APAC and market head for Oceania, John Featherstone said, “Sony’s Xperia Z Series has consistently brought advanced innovation and technology to the mobile phone industry.”

“The Xperia Z5 Series has been developed to answer consumer needs and ever changing behaviours with a best-in-class camera and imaging experience and renowned battery life of up to two days, combined with new innovations in design, including the world’s first 4K smartphone,” he said.

The Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact will be available from next week. The Xperia Z5 Premium will hit stores in November.
