Woolworths and Big W recall heaters over electric shock and fire risk

ARsignupIn the same week Woolworths announced the departure of its CEO and plans to cut 1,200 jobs, a product recall has been added to its list of woes.

Four Essentials, Adesso and Contempo portable room heaters sold at Big W and Woolworths have been recalled because the pins in the plug may dislodge when the appliance is being unplugged from the wall which could potentially result in electric shock or fire.

The heaters were sold nationally in the last four months between 15 March 2015 and 17 June 2015.

The affected models are:
– Woolworths Essentials Upright Fan Heater 2000 watt (FH09E-B)
– Essentials Oscillating Fan Heater 2000 watt (FH09F-B)
– Adesso Oscillating Ceramic Fan Heater 1800 watt (FH102T)
– Contempo Oscillating Ceramic Fan Heater (FH102T)

Consumers should stop using the heaters and return them to their nearest Big W or Woolworths store to receive a full refund.

Maybe its just me but I reckon the Woolworths group have had more recalls in the past year or two on electrical than any brand has had.
Where are the regulatory bodies on this. Brands would have been hauled over the coals by retailers and ACCC after this many recalls.
Woolworths Group if you’re listening…..tighten up your quality control and take some responsibility.

    Terrible. Just terrible.

Woolworths screws over proper appliance companies with a b grade product and it catches fire.

No wonder they are in financial trouble.

I will always buy a proper brand name for something important like an appliance.

I was a supplier of a national brand to Big W and was dumped for a house brand. The stuff we were replaced with is trash, which is where Big W has decided to position itself, trash trash and more trash. I have never seen so many electrical recalls as I have of Woolworths Electrical Brands. Surely they must eventually realise that National brands invest in technology and safety. Woolworths seem to be only interested in margin, they don’t make anything, they look for the cheapest supplier and they reap the rewards of that attitude. The reason why my brand was replaced was margin, oh yeah and it wasn’t selling?????????funnily enough every Monday when the Big W PAD reports came out I got reorders in the vicinity of $50K with a average unit cost of $4.50…The margin storey is a great success, they were making 45% on one of my products which cost them $7.00, that’s a nice dollar return, but they are now more successful in that they are making 60% on a $2.00 products. Great thinking, that type of thinking should eventuall y lead them to where KMart have been for the past 10 years.
