They don’t make ’em like Marantz

UnderCurrent often hears the old school industry types whinging that ‘they don’t make ’em like that anymore’. Product life cycles have shortened so much that consumer just expect their phone to break after 12 months, their washing machine to start whining after a few years and their gadgets to be rendered obsolete as soon as the next iteration hits the market.

That’s why this ad piqued UnderCurrent’s interest — it’s for a Marantz receiver from the 1970s and the sentiment certainly still resides in people of that vintage:

    Marantz was unbeatable. My youngest daughter was about 1 or 2 when we bought ours. She will be 39 this year and it has never missed a beat. It has the most wonderful sound and I have never found anything that comes close to it. The only thing I didn’t like was the gold colour but hey I put up with that to have the sound. Marantz ruled back then and in my mind my stereo still does. Cheryl.
