Brand Developers has today enacted another product recall on its range of Shark vacuum cleaners. Following the recall of two Navigator models on 16 March 2015, the New Zealand-based distributor has recalled the Rocket (HV300NZ) for a similar fault.

The fault with the Shark Rocket cleaners lies in its power cord, which can fail near the strain relief, resulting in burns and/or electric shocks.

Affected Shark Rockets bear products codes in the range 0314A to 4614A inclusive. They were sold between 1 February 2014 and 7 April 2015 both directly via Brand Developers’ TV infomercial channel in Big W, Harvey Norman, Harris Scarfe, The Good Guys and Myer stores nationwide.

Consumers who have purchased one of these vacuums are advised to immediately stop using it and to unplug the appliance at the wall. They should then register their details either at or by calling the Shark Hotline on 1800 722 222.

In early February, I revealed that Brand Developers had written to its suppliers asking them to suspend sales of two Shark Navigator vacuum cleaners. Just over one month later, Brand Developers officially recalled these two cleaners. At this time, I revealed that Brand Developers had known about the Shark Navigator faults since a customer was injured in late 2014: a full three months before it publicly told customers to stop using the affected cleaners.

The Shark brand is owned globally by Euro-Pro Operating, a family-run company based in Massachusetts, in the United States. In addition to the Shark range of floorcare products, Brand Developers also markets Euro-Pro’s small appliance brand Ninja.

Earlier this week, Brand Developers was in the news when I revealed it has lost the local Magic Bullet and NutriBullet distribution to CDB Goldair Australia.
