Dick Smith adds new online storefront to omnichannel offering

By Christmas, Dick Smith will have eight different online platforms where consumers can buy products from the consumer electronics retailer. The most recent to launch is Dick Smith Trade Me, a Dick Smith-branded store on New Zealand’s leading online marketplace which has over 3.5 million members.

Currently consumers can buy from Dick Smith transactional websites and apps, as well as Dick Smith online stores hosted by Westfield, eBay, Catch of the Day and David Jones and the Move transactional website will be open by Christmas.

The expanded online storefront is part of Dick Smith’s growth strategy which includes online sales doubling to make up 10 per cent of retail sales before FY17.

Neil Merola director of marketing for Dick Smith said the partnership with Trade Me gave Dick Smith customers another convenient retail platform. Dick Smith is launching the site with discounts for Trade Me members and continued exclusive deals on the site.

“Dick Smith’s partnership with Trade Me is another milestone in the company’s growth strategy. The Dick Smith Trade Me store complements our omnichannel platform in New Zealand, with customers already able to buy from 61 physical stores and the dicksmith.co.nz transactional website,” said Merola.

The company has outlined its plans to fully integrate its online offering with the physical store network, offering Click & Collect from all local stores and customer delivery from 130 stores for faster, cheaper delivery. The expansion of its physical store network — the company is aiming for 450 stores by FY17, at a rate of around 20 new stores opening annually — is also a central element of Dick Smith’s growth strategy.

Georgina McGowan, head of supply for Trade Me said the move was good news for the online marketplace’s members.

“The Dick Smith team really know their stuff when it comes to selling tech products and we’re excited to be working with an iconic brand to deliver their broad range of products to our members at great prices. We see the combination of our broad audience and Dick Smith’s trusted range of top quality tech gadgets working very well,” she said.
