UPDATED: Woolworths recalls a range of house brand and Chevron electrical products

UPDATED: The ACCC has published a new recall notice for a number of Woolworths Essentials and Chevron electrical products which pose a risk of overheating and fire.

The recall notice states the products have been recalled because, “electrical contacts of the sockets are poorly aligned and the plastic enclosure does not meet the flammability requirements of the applicable standard.”

The following Woolworths Essentials products have been recalled:
– Left & right double adaptors, two pack models
– Four outlet power board, surge protection, model: PB4S
– Surge Cube Model: ZM-AFX110H
– Double Adaptor, model: DAV
– Four outlet surge protected power board with 3-metre lead, model: WH-4PBS

The following products in the Chevron range have been recalled:
– Double adaptor, models: CDAL and CDA
– Double adaptor two pack, model: DAV
– Four and six outlet surge protected power board with 3-metre lead, models: WH-4PBS & WH-6PBS
– Surge cube, model: ZM-AFX110H

The products were sold nationally between 1 December 2009 and 7 November 2014 at Woolworths Supermarkets and Big W stores. Consumers should stop using the adaptors, powerboards and surge protectors and return them to their nearest Big W store or Woolworths Supermarkets store to receive a full refund.

This new recall comes after Woolworths recalled a Woolworths Essentials double adaptor and a Chevron double adaptor over risk of electrical shock caused by “poor workmanship” on 22 October 2014.

The ACCC recall notice states: “Due to poor workmanship internal contact may occur between live parts and earth.”

Woolworths is the parent company of Masters Home Improvement which has published four recall notices for electrical products in recent months, all under the Olsent brand and all with similar faults that could cause electric shock or fire.

The recalled double adaptors were sold nationally at Big W from February 2010 to October 2014 and at Woolworths supermarkets from January 2009 to October 2014.

Consumers should stop using the double adaptors and return them to their nearest Big W store or Woolworths supermarket to receive a full refund.
