October is Breast Cancer Awareness month in Australia. Pink ribbons will be pinned, landmarks illuminated in a pinkish glow and products dipped in pink all to raise funds for breast cancer research, prevention programs and support services.

The White House temporarily turned pink for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month 24 October 2013.

Electrolux has joined forces with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) as a corporate supporter to help raise funds for breast cancer research with the release of a limited edition pink Ergorapido handstick vacuum cleaner.

Working with nail polish brand OPI, Electrolux settled on a shade of pink called “Princesses Rule” which will be available for a limited time from October 2014. Electrolux will donate $10 from each pink Ergorapido (RRP $359) sold to the NBCF to help the organisation reach its goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.

Blanco is also a Gold Corporate Partner and long-time supporter of the NBCF and has contributed over $350,000 to date, to the cause. Now in its 20th year, the NBCF has allocated more than $105 million to 374 breast cancer research projects across Australia.

Marketing executive Lisa Hill said Blanco is proud to share in the NBCF’s vision.

“A percentage of every Blanco product purchased is donated to the NBCF and helps fund, not only the laboratory-based research that will uncover new therapies and ultimately the cause of breast cancer, but also improved treatments and ways to support women; their careers and families, the understanding of risk factors for breast cancer and best possible delivery of health services,” Hill said.

Blanco holds events throughout the year its showrooms, the Prahran Market and other locations in support of the NBCF including Pink Ribbon Breakfasts and Pink Cook-Offs.

“Blanco and its employees also get involved in fundraising initiatives, promotions and generally spreading the word about the NBCF through various channels,” Hill said.

If retailers would like to further get involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month the Cancer Council suggests businesses help raise funds by donating a percentage of sales of products, through selling Pink Ribbon Day merchandise in-store or holding a wear pink event.
