Samsung’s focus will switch to smart appliances when it delivers the keynote address at the 2015 International CES in early January next year. Having wowed the crowd at IFA — where the Korean company was also the keynote speaker — with phablets, smartphones and smartwatches, Samsung’s president and CEO, Boo-Keun Yoon, is expected to focus on how appliances will connect with technology to create an Internet of Things in the home.

“Samsung is widely-known for its disruptive technologies and business models, and has been one of the fastest growing CE brands in the world,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, the organisation that puts together CES every year. “Samsung amazes at each CES with its innovative products spanning the entire tech ecosystem. We welcome Boo-Keun Yoon back to the keynote stage for the 2015 CES.”

CES has long been considered the Mecca for consumer electronics industry and it leads the way in terms of new product innovation, technological advancement, trade deals being done and, to be frank, beer consumed. The show will be taking place in Las Vegas, 6-9 January 2015, with Boo-Keun Yoon to deliver his address at the Palazzo Ballroom at the Venetian on the eve of the official opening, at 6:30pm on Monday 5 January 2015.

“According to CEA/GfK research, global consumer technology spending will top more than $1 trillion in 2015. Lauded for its innovative design and technology across its diverse portfolio of products, Samsung Electronics is a leading global brand for high-tech electronics and digital media.”

While the majority of CES proper is held at the Las Vegas Convention Centre, media day in 2015 will be largely staged at the Mandalay Bay resort and casino, which is at the opposite end of the Strip to the Venetian and the Convention Centre.

Only companies with something special to say tend to book these marquee and expensive slots. Those scheduled for 2015 include Panasonic, LG Electronics, Sharp, Samsung (a separate presser to its keynote) and Sony. Unlike the others mentioned, Sony holds its CES reveal on its stand at the Convention Centre, meaning there is always a mad dash from one end of Vegas to the other.
