Samsung unveils smartphone-camera hybrid and HTC takes new mid-range smartphone exclusively to Optus

Samsung has announced its smartphone-camera hybrid, the Galaxy K zoom, will be available in Australia for RRP $749.

Available in black or white, the Galaxy K zoom blends digital camera technology with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. It features has 10x optical zoom lens technology and the latest in Samsung mobile design.

“Australians love taking photographs and sharing their experiences online using their smartphones so we’re extremely excited to be able to deliver a product that meets the demands many of us have for a great mobile and photographic device,” said Craig Gillespie, business unit manager – digital imaging, Samsung Electronics Australia.

The Galaxy K zoom is also compatible with Samsung’s wearable devices including Gear Fit, Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.

In other smartphone news, HTC have announced its mid-range smartphone, the HTC Desire 816 will be made available in Australia exclusively through Optus. From 2 June 2014, Optus customers can purchase the HTC Desire 816 outright for RRP $398 or on any Optus MyPlan.

“Our Desire range has always been popular with the mid-market segment and with the launch of the HTC Desire 816, we have delivered a smartphone with an unprecedented feature set and great price” said Ben Hodgson, country manager of HTC Australia and New Zealand.

HTC Desire 816 features dual-frontal speakers, a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP front-facing camera and BlinkFeed, which pulls news, events and social-networking updates onto the front homepage.
