This Monday (9 June 2014) is a public holiday in all states and territories, except for Western Australia, in honour of the Queen’s Birthday. WA celebrates the Queen’s Birthday on Monday 29 September 2014 and Queen Elizabeth II has already celebrated her actual birthday for this year on 21 April.

Unlike Easter or Anzac Day, there are no onerous restrictions on trade for this public holiday.

The annual Queen’s Birthday AFL match between the Collingwood and Melbourne will be played at the MCG from 3:20pm (AEST) and will be broadcast coverage will begin at 3pm on Channel 7 and Fox Footy. That’s 2:30pm in South Australia and Northern Territory and 1pm in Western Australia.

The Queen’s Birthday NRL match is between the Canberra Raiders and the Brisbane Broncos and kicks off at 7pm and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports.
