Las Vegas, United States

It’s almost 11pm in Las Vegas and while the 2013 International CES does not officially start for another 1.5 days, the Monday of CES week is a fully booked day of press conferences by the leading consumer electronics brands. Korean powerhouse LG Electronics will kick things off at 8am Monday morning (2am Tuesday morning on Australia’s east coast).

LG has already flagged a lot of intentions for the CES. There will be two new Google TVs to take advantage of LG’s redesigned Magic Remote; a new range of AV models including a 9.1 channel speaker system, a new sound bar, a Blu-ray player with Smart TV functionality and a dual docking speaker; new games for its Smart TVs, including titles already popular with smartphone users, such as Where’s My Water; and a new range of Smart TVs under LG’s Cinema 3D sub-brand.

What really caught Appliance Retailer’s eye when reviewing LG’s pre-releases was this square-ish chestnut:

Launched CES: LG Roboking Square.

Descriptively called the LG Roboking Square, this ruby red robot vacuum cleaner will be patrolling the carpets of LG’s stand at the Las Vegas Convention Centre. Inability to reach 90-degree corners is a common complaint of round robotic vacuums – an issue this model will apparently address.

“In practically every house around the world, rooms have right-angle corners, so it made perfect sense to LG’s design team to develop a vacuum that takes this into account. The Roboking Square makes cleaning the hard-to-reach places easier,” said LG Electronics Australia PR supremo Philip Anderson.

Appliance Retailer looks forward to verifying this claim with its own eyes. And we’ll be reporting live from LG’s press conference so be sure to join us from 2am on the east coast, a few hours earlier in the west.
