Uniden has added to the feature set of its cordless phone range, bringing a point of difference to the retail floor, with its new DoorGuard home intercom and cordless phone system.

The Door Guard Three-in-one Home Intercom (UWG200) combines two DECT digital cordless phones with a battery-operated combined intercom and doorbell, allowing consumers to make calls and respond to visitors with the same handset. Uniden is pitching the product at both domestic and small business users.

The convergence of technologies represents an innovation in the cordless phone category, which has suffered a decline with the introduction of mobile phones and more fully-featured smartphones.

The launch of the DoorGuard follows the release of the Guardian home surveillance system earlier this year. According to Uniden’s senior national marketing executive, Brad Hales, the new combined intercom and phone product shows the brand’s commitment to the wireless home surveillance category.

“Wireless home surveillance is a fast-growing market in Australia,” said Hales. “Despite the tougher retail environment in 2012, consumers continue to spend when it comes to goods that will improve their home life.

“Uniden is excited to extend its product offering in this category following the huge success of the Guardian wireless surveillance series earlier this year, and the ongoing popularity of our award-winning baby monitor range.

“The new DoorGuard UWG200 combines Uniden’s quality cordless phones with innovative home wireless technology to offer users a simple, affordable intercom for their property.  The plug-and-play nature of DoorGuard makes it effective in a range of environments, from busy homes and apartments to small offices to even warehouses or repair yards.”

The Uniden DoorGuard UWG200 is now available nationally for RRP $129.95.
