Big W has announced a recall of a range of its house-brand Abode electric blankets today.
Single, Single Fitted and Queen/Double electric blankets are among the products being recalled due to the units posing a fire hazard. According to a recall notice issued by the ACCC, “the control cord may fatigue and cause an internal short circuit or overheating”.
The products were available for sale in Big W stores nationally between 1 March 2011 and 7 August 2012.
The affected products can be identified by the following model numbers and batch codes:
Single: Model BA111 (Keycode 7089466) with Batch Codes 021, 031, 051, 081 and 121.
Single Fitted: Model BA211 (Keycode 7089527) with Batch Codes 021, 031, 041 and 121.
Queen/Double: Model BA212 (Keycode 7089619) with Batch Codes 530, 031, 041, 081 and 111.
Consumers are advised to cease using the product and immediately return it to any Big W store for a full refund.
