Microsoft has announced an update to its Xbox Live experience, due to be launched tomorrow, which will give users access to a range of new apps as well as voice control for Kinect on Xbox 360.

“Xbox is different – not only with a new look but great new content and voice control as of tomorrow," said Microsoft Australia’s director, Consumer Channels Group, David McLean. "We are unique in the market and plan to stay that way.

“When Australians download the Xbox LIVE update, their Xbox 360 will feel completely new – it will feel like the Xbox was redesigned for a new era in entertainment.”

In addition to the existing content available from Foxtel on the Xbox 360, consumers will be able to access new TV apps including ABC iView, SBS On Demand, You Tube and Daily Motion, as well as video content from ninemsn, including Nine News, Today and Wide World of Sports.

Xbox users will also be able to download an Xbox Companion App for Windows Phones from the Marketplace, allowing them to control their Xbox with their phone.

“We know that so many people have their phones with them in the living room while they watch TV and now Xbox gives them a way to search through Xbox marketplace without interrupting what’s on the screen,” said McLean.
