SYDNEY, NSW: Sunbeam CEO David Jackson has confirmed that the iron recall in the United States (US) will not affect the local company in Australia.

About 5,700 Sunbeam Convertible Clothes Irons, manufactured in China, were recalled in the United States last week after the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Sunbeam announced a voluntary recall due to a fire and burn hazard.

Sunbeam had received 17 reports of irons overheating and three reports of irons catching on fire, though no injuries have been reported. It is believed that a wiring issue was causing the potential hazard.

David Jackson, Sunbeam CEO told Current.com.au that the recall is irrelevant to Australian consumers and retailers.

“Sunbeam Australia does not have the product in question; it is not stocked in Australia.  Therefore the recall in the US will have no local impact for the company,” he said.

Affected consumers in the US were advised to immediately stop using the irons and contact Sunbeam for a free replacement.
