SYDNEY, NSW: The consumer electronics retail industry is mourning the death of John Briscoe, an industry legend who traded in Sydney for almost 60 years.

Briscoe died on Monday 7 February 2011. Paying tribute to his late father is John’s son Patrick Briscoe.

“John began his own electrical business in the 1950s from a very humble shop in Bexley, which grew to 5 stores in Sydney's south and south-west, before consolidating back to Bexley, which has only recently ceased trading,” said Patrick Briscoe.

“Over the years, John had served as director and chairman of Retravision NSW and also on the board of the national company.”

John Briscoe is survived by his wife, their 9 children, 26 grandchildren and one great grandchild. A requiem mass will be held at St Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Bexley, at 11am on Friday 11 February 2011.
