SYDNEY, NSW: Tomorrow (Tuesday 2 November 2010) will see the running of the 150th Melbourne Cup. Known as the Race That Stops a Nation, this event is sure to have an effect on the retail consumer electronics industry.

Firstly, the race will be run at 3pm local time. That’s also 3pm in New South Wales, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory. Jump time is 2:30pm in South Australia and the Northern Territory, 2pm in Queensland and 12 midday in Western Australia.

Tomorrow is a public holiday in Melbourne, but not in all of Victoria. Businesses with urgent commerce with Melbourne-based enterprises should conduct this today.

Although not a public holiday in other parts of Australia, the race does attract the attention of most, with many businesses shutting down for Cup Day parties after lunch. It is advisable to conclude any inter-business dealings tomorrow morning.

The race will be shown live on Channel 7, with coverage beginning at 10am local time. While watching the race, look out for the TCL Electronics signage throughout Flemington racecourse.

The Melbourne Cup’s betting code is MR7. It is the first leg of Quadrella and the Daily Double, and the third leg of the Big6.
