SYDNEY, NSW: Toshiba and GE have today thrown its hat into the swimming pool with the launch of its own multimedia camera. This category, which is quickly becoming over-supplied, was made famous by the Cisco Flip.

With Panasonic and Sony now also marketing handheld HD video cameras, it’s imperative to have some sort of USP to separate you from the pack. Unfortunately for Toshiba and Tasco, they’ve got exactly the same USP: waterproof-ness.

The Toshiba Camileo BW10 Sportscam (RRP $299) is waterproof to two metres, has Full HD video capture, 5-megapixel image capture, 10x digital zoom and a rubber casing.

The GE DV1 (RRP $199) is also waterproof, and also has a Full HD video camera with 5-megapixel image capture.

The biggest difference between the two (except for $100) is the LCD screen. The GE product, despite being cheaper, has a bigger screen: 2.5 inches compared to 2 inches.
