SYDNEY, NSW: Soniq is the next electrical supplier to join the ranks of other suppliers using Advanced Video Coding High Definition (AVCHD) technology in their digital camera recorder formats.

Soniq, which is distributed by JB Hi-Fi, announced today that it had been granted an AVCHD license and that it will begin developing a range of products in the coming months. These products will be available in the market early 2011, according to Soniq.

AVCHD is compatible with recording media including DVD, built-in media, SD memory cards and memory sticks and since 2008 it has been used in professional camcorder equipment.

AVCHD was developed jointly by Panasonic and Sony and was first announced in 2006. Canon, Hitachi and JVC soon followed with their own consumer models.
